HI, I’m Acacia Covington. I am in my third year at Boise State University. I will be applying for the Elementary Education program within the next few years. I will be attending another educational institution next semester and will be finishing my education there. I’m not sure where I will be going yet I am still in the searching process, but am very excited!
If everything goes according to plan I should be graduating in 2014 some time. I hope to have my own classroom as soon as possible after graduation. I really hope to teach second or third grade. I enjoy this age group and think that this is a very important time in their lives and need to be surrounded by people who are positive influences and examples. I think that I would be the type of person that these children need I their lives.
I don’t know how to explain it but I am much more comfortable around kids than adults. I am able to connect with children more. I feel awkward around adults and usually don’t know how to act so I am able to be myself around kids. Most kids are drawn to me and that has definitely influenced my decision to become a teacher.
I have had a hard time deciding what to do because all my life my dream was to become a stay at home mom. I am still hoping I will be able to when we do have kids. Being in college is more of a fall back plan for me. If I’m not able to stay home when I have kids I want to be able to do something that I will enjoy. I think that I will enjoy this career more than anything else.
